George Carroll review of CD “So Taken”

We are who we hang with!! My dear friend and jazz drummer Ralph Rosen has taken careful steps to assure a workable CD project that will initiate the neophyte jazz listener. The “careful steps” include all my heroes and models, et al Billy Pierce-reeds,  George “Garz” Garzone-reeds, Greg Hopkins-trumpet, John Lockwood-bass, Bruce Katz-piano & Ralph on drums.

Having this type of jazz artistry at one’s disposal can only give a listener a feeling of total joy and  expression for both bebop and avant-guard jazz. It’s difficult to zone in on the  particular artistic  prowess of any one sideman since they all possess virtuosic skills and superb time. The band’s intelligent treatment of these songs is absorbing….yes,  even compelling.
